Bald Mountain Vineyard - Estate -
Planted in 1989 by Jim and Emmet (Bud) Beaureagrd. The 40 acre property consists of 31.5 acres of vineyard.
The clone 4 (Old Wente Clone) was selected and was planted on native root stock.
The soil profile of the vineyard is Zayante Sand with underlying sandstone bedrock and a distance from the Pacific Ocean of 2.91 miles at an elevation of 923 - 1,111 feet.
The long and cold growing season retains striking acidity in the wine while the sandy soils contribute a unique minerallity. The evening fog from the Pacific Ocean contributes an extremely rare salinity that is found in only a handful of vineyards in California.
Bald Mountain is certainly a unicorn vineyard and a treasure of the Santa Cruz Mountains Viticultural Area.
